A Spark For Morganza Revitalization: The Revival Of The Cedar Club

Posted 02/02/20 - Melissa Beauvais Harvey

The Cedar Club, newly revived as The Cedar Saloon, is a hoppin’ spot once more! The historic dance hall, built in 1947 by Frank Sansone of Morganza, was restored by partners Mark Allement and Shane Shows. The owners are thrilled with the support they've received from people in the parish since they opened the doors on New Years Eve. Though final touches remain to be completed, everyone who has visited has been thoroughly impressed with the work that has been done to save this historic landmark in our parish.

The Cedar Saloon’s renovation includes both preservation, restoration, and expansion. The original cedar bar, which inspired the name of the Saloon, has been extended tremendously. The owners were committed to keeping as much of the original flooring as they could, though some rotten areas had to be replaced. The original bandstand was revealed when a wall that was not original to the building was removed and a live band has played on it every Saturday night since opening. In the past few weeks, the exterior has received a paint job, the parking has been improved and expanded, new windows have been installed, and wood casings have been installed around the exterior windows. A spacious game room has been added with pool tables and a foosball table, with video poker machines coming soon. The owners have even more plans for the historic building and you’re sure to be surprised when it's complete. A grand opening is being planned for when all of the renovations are complete, but that’s not stopping folks from holding gatherings and events.

The owners’ desire is that The Cedar Saloon will be a gathering place for locals and visitors. Now that the Saloon is getting into a groove, events are happening five nights a week! Pool tournaments begin at 7 pm Wednesdays; free supper is served on Thursdays beginning at 7 pm; Karaoke begins at 9 pm on Fridays; live bands perform on Saturdays from 9 pm - 1 am; and finally, Swamp Pop Sundays include music and free food from 4 pm - 8 pm. More events are in the works, so stay tuned.  (Article Continued Below)

The Saloon is preparing for a big show on Saturday, February 8th with Travis Matte & the Kingpins. The band was formed in 2004 and its sound is a mixture of Cajun, Swamp Pop, Zydeco, Country, and Rock all blended together to create The Kingpins’ unique sound. The band has played nearly every major festival and night club in Louisiana and plenty out of state as well. The Kingpins are in the process of releasing their 12th studio album. Tickets can be purchased in advance either at the Saloon during business hours or online at TheCedarSaloon.com for the price of 2/$30, or can be bought at the door for $20/person.

The Cedar Saloon is open Monday - Saturday from 2 pm - 2 am and Sundays 10 am - til. The phone number is 225-618-6434. To keep up with the hustle and bustle of The Cedar Saloon, be sure to follow them on Facebook and subscribe to their email list at TheCedarSaloon.com.
